Super Bowl XLVI is upon us! Most of us don’t have tickets to the gam in Indianapolis, but that doesn’t stop the majority of the USA, and lots of folks all over the world, from watching the “big game”.  Big parties, and even entire weekends, are planned around it. Certainly, the Super Bowl is the opportune time and perfect reason to buy a new TV!

Here at Smarttvreviewer.com, we know that perhaps many televisions are sold in January for this big event. But if you are thinking of buying a TV, what should you buy and where? Whether you are rooting for the New York Giants or the New England Patriots, here are some suggestions on scoring a TV touchdown:

Although we are still reserving final judgment on the widespread longevity of 3DTV, many videophiles are fans, and we certainly aren’t ignoring their popularity. This year’s Super Bowl will be broadcast in both 2D and 3D, and this Samsung offering will satisfy any 3D craving you might have.

When it comes to defensive players and panel TVs, size does make a difference, and Mitsubishi knows it. LED and Plasma get more attention than DLP, but in this case the screen size, 3D capability, and price make this TV worth considering. Your buddies will be envious and the ladies will swoon when they get a load of your huge 73” . . . screen! Better than average color, Dolby sound, and three HDMI ports give you lots of bang for your buck.

Coming in at $1149 on Amazon, this monster 3D capable TV is a Super Big Boy for your Super Bowl. The only drawbacks of this set are that the 3D glasses are sold separately, and the TV might be a bigger event than the game! Don’t worry, though. This TV is so big, it will keep on delivering loads of fun long after the Pats and Jets have gone home.

For those who don’t care about 3DTV, or for those on a more conservative budget, This 51″, 1080p plasma panel TV has a “Super” picture for this year’s Bowl. Offering 2 HDMI ports and a USB port, this Insignia will be a crowd pleaser. Many consumers swear by plasma TVs as being the best having  the fastest response times (faster response times reduce motion blur). Averaging at around $600 or so, this Insignia is a good deal.

If plasma isn’t your cup of tea, and you are instead a LED fan (like many of us here), then this 55” “, 1080p Westinghouse TV might be just your ticket to Super Bowl success! Colors don’t get any more vivid than LED. To sweeten the appeal, this TV boasts 3 HDMI inputs, a PC input, and the slim, lightweight design that comes with LED panels. Coming in at around $850, this TV leaves room in your wallet for more salsa and suds!

Suggestions: Shop around! Sears, H.H. Gregg, Best Buy, and other retailers all have great sales this and every Super Bowl Season. If you are searching online, go to a retailer’s website. DON’T search for “Super Bowl”. The NFL owns the rights to “Super Bowl” and “Super Sunday” and advertisers aren’t allowed to use them in sales campaigns without compensating the NFL.

Our Final Thought (with apologies to Mr. Springer): Getting a new TV for Super Bowl XLVI is a great idea, but think long term too: your TV will be there after the game, so invest in a set that you’ll love to watch again when March Madness and spring baseball arrive!
